Swatches in the photo were magnetized using the rectangular end of a simple double end magnet, Make sure your layers are not to thin (so you have enough magnetic particles), keep the magnet close (1/8 inch) to the gel and hold it for a good 10-20 seconds or more to give time for all the particles to move.

In order to get the cat eye effect, a magnet is needed to get the magnetic particles in the gel to shift. Simply paint the gel on a nail and before curing it, hold the magnet over the top of the nail for several seconds to allow the magnetic particles to shift. Once the desired look is achieved, cure the gel. 

Cat eye gels have earned their name from the narrow line of light that shimmers in the middle of the nail polish that resembles the eye of a cat. When a magnet is held over the nail, the magnetic particles inside the gel polish creates that iconic, galactic effect. Cat eye gels can be painted on normally or used along with a magnet to achieve the cat eye look.
